What is Harbor?
Harbor is bookkeeping software built specifically for freelancers and solo operators. We help you track income and expenses, send invoices, see real-time tax estimates, and generate client-ready reports - without the overhead of tools designed for teams.
Who is Harbor for?
Harbor is for independent contractors, freelancers, consultants, and one-person businesses. If you invoice clients and file taxes as an individual or sole proprietor, Harbor is shaped around how you work. If you are a multi-person agency, look for another tool.
How does billing work?
Starter is free, with no credit card required. Pro is $12 per month and Business is $29 per month, billed monthly on the day you signed up. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your account settings. We accept all major credit cards.
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. Harbor uses bank-grade encryption (AES-256) in transit and at rest. Connections to your bank use read-only OAuth tokens through our partner Plaid - we can never move money on your behalf, and we never sell or share your data. Our infrastructure runs on SOC 2 Type II certified hosting.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel any time, with no fees. If you cancel a paid plan, you keep access through the end of your billing period. Your data stays accessible for export for 30 days after cancellation, then is permanently deleted. We would rather earn your business every month than lock you in.
Does Harbor integrate with my bank?
Harbor connects to over 12,000 banks and credit unions in the US, Canada, the UK, and the EU through our partner Plaid. Coverage includes most major institutions, including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, Capital One, Barclays, HSBC, and TD.
Does Harbor file my taxes for me?
Harbor gives you everything you need to file, but we do not file on your behalf. You get a real-time tax estimate, categorized transactions, an annual summary you can hand to your accountant or upload to your tax software (TurboTax, H&R Block, TaxAct), and a Schedule C export. Customers who switch to Harbor consistently report filing four times faster.
How long does setup take?
Most freelancers complete setup in under three minutes. Connect a bank, add your business basics (legal name, tax ID, fiscal year), and you are ready. During setup you can import up to 12 months of historical transactions so your books start complete, not empty.
Can I work with my accountant using Harbor?
Yes. You can export reports as PDF or CSV, grant your accountant view-only access inside Harbor, or hand them your annual summary at year end. Pro and Business plans support multiple invited viewers, so your accountant always has access without paying for a second seat.
Do you offer a discount for annual billing?
Yes - annual plans save 20%. Pro is $115 per year (versus $144 paid monthly) and Business is $279 per year (versus $348 paid monthly). Switch to annual billing any time from your account settings.
